诏安县的五通宫与台湾50余座五显宫或五通宫祀奉着同一尊神祗「华光天王」,俗称「五通大帝」(民间尚有许多称呼,此不尽录),是福建与台湾两地民间的保护神。
五通宫座落在诏安县霞葛镇五通村鸡笼山麓的东溪河畔,始建于明朝永乐元年癸末(1403年),是由祖籍五通村的 “泉州参军” 黄文通倡议,霞葛黄氏宗亲集资所建。宫观颇具唐宗时代的建筑风格,是单担歇山式,“二进” 构筑,由大门、门厅、天井、庑廊、拜亭、大殿与护厝等构成。面阔三间,抬梁式斗拱,由门厅至大殿并列着十对一斗三升式的梭形石柱,柱灿呈鼓镜形。正供、辅供、檐尾等俱雕搂精致。至万厉廿八年庚子(1600年),由当地乡绅黄华宇斥资拓建成极具规模的三进式宫观,包括后花园与宫坪,总面积4000平方米。后来,著名学者,民族英雄黄道周应黄华宇之邀为其题书 “正位居体” 木匾,悬于正殿之神坛上。两侧楹联乃广东翰林詹肯构所撰写:“正位面临之东西庶士皆起敬,居体以育也南北乡民永蒙庥。” 清乾隆间,累官南澳总兵的当地人黄世桓亦为其匾书 “有诚有神” 挂在中堂。明末,天地会首领万礼,明季总督,洪门头领黄调阳等均以五通宫作为反清复明的据点。历来到此视察、观光的政要亦不乏其人,如清咸丰间的福建布政使钱宝懿,同治间的巡海道蒋洪润,光绪间的漳州知府李树敏等。
庙里供奉的降伏妖魔,为民除害的华光天主法力无边。据《南游记》载,华光有五个兄弟,他最幼,五兄弟中:一通天,二通地,三通风,四通水,五通火。 因此民间有五通或五显之称。福建和台湾谓五通大帝或五显大帝,其名虽异而其实则同。自明末清初以来,霞葛的黄氏宗亲便陆续漂洋过海,赴外地谋生。离乡前, 就到五通宫恭请五显大帝香火,随身携带到寓居地设坛奉祀,以祈平安。而今,就以台湾一地即有五十多座从诏安分香出去的五显宫或五通宫,分布在彰化、屏东、 台北、宜兰、台东、云林、台中等十八个县市。
廿年来,砂海外黄氏宗亲或结伴或组团返回祖地诏安五通宫朝拜,由此足见黄氏族人对五显大帝之虔诚。
已历十个甲子(600年)的五通宫几经重修,多年前又再次修葺,修缮后的五通宫更为巍蛾壮观,咸认祖地的优秀文化遗产得到保护及宏扬,个人亦感欣慰。 五通宫的许多碑刻颇具文物考古价值,在1987年列入诏安县级文物保护单位。
Hwa Kong Then Ong was popularly known as Gnoh Tong Dai Tay. He was known by many names until it is unrecorded. However here we only name a few.
Back then in the year 1403 during Ming Dynasty the Hokkiens started to worship Gnoh Tong Dai Tay and built a huge temple to dedicate to this deity. Since the popularity increased tremendously in the year 1600, a temple of 4000m2 was built to worship this deity.
According to the Southern Journey Gnoh Tong Dai Tay had 4 other sibling brothers. He was the youngest among all of them. These 5 brothers possessed super natural powers which they can travel through different dimension. The first brother was able to travel through sky the second through earth, third through wind, fourth through water and fifth is also Gnoh Tong Dai Tay can travel through fire. At the end of Ching Dynasty there was a Mr. Ooi who took the run to Taiwan. It was then distributed to more than 50 temples there.
